Municipal Information
Town Description
Residents of Verona Island describe it as the way “life should be.” It is a unique, small, island town, nestled in the Penobscot River just south of Bucksport, and was incorporated in 1861. The atmosphere has a quiet, rural feel, and the tight-knit community is made up of about 500 people. The island, once a shipbuilding village, with roughly 6.24 square miles of land and 2.53 square miles of water, is picturesque yet secluded. The Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Observatory is located on Verona Island offering spectacular views, a lovely place to picnic, along with a museum/gift shop and special events throughout the year. Verona is situated conveniently in the middle of a commuter hub for larger towns, including Belfast, Bangor and Ellsworth.
