Municipal Information

Town Description

At the head of the Penobscot Narrows, along the Orland River, sits a charming picture-postcard-worthy village within the larger rural community of Orland. Incorporated in 1800, Orland has a thriving community center hosting regular fitness classes, pickleball and events and puts on an annual Orland River Day with vendors, music, and more. The East Orland community (a small town within a small town) is another distinct area of town. Additionally, the town contains deeply wooded countryside dotted with private residences, lakeside camps, and working farms offering a traditional small-town feel appealing to those seeking privacy and independence without sacrificing modern conveniences. There is convenient access to Bucksport, Ellsworth, Bangor and the broader Midcoast region.

Town Officials

Orland’s annual town meeting and elections are not held until June, after the BCR press date. Thus it’s possible that town officials will change with the 2026 elections.
