Municipal Information
Town Description
Bucksport was settled in the 1760s by Colonel Jonathan Buck, after whom the town is named, and was incorporated as “Buckstown” in 1792 before changing its name to Bucksport in 1817. Known as the most haunted town in Maine, Bucksport stretches 50 square miles from the “village” to the “outback.” The town is located along US Route 1, a major route taken every year by vacationers heading to and from Mount Desert Island and Downeast. With an active waterfront walkway, a town-maintained dock, seasonal marina, a historic library, the Bucksport Historical Museum, the Bucksport Paper Mill Museum and more, the town offers residents and tourists many activities to enjoy.
